Although I’m not complaining, it’s been a little too hot to dig trenches with a pick axe. To minimize blisters (avoiding them altogether won’t be an option; that ship has sailed) I’m digging for short times, and then take a break. Some parts are relatively easy, like tough clay, yet other parts are literally hard as a rock. But it’s doable.
Here’s what it looks like near the pole;
It’s not very deep yet, I think I will stop around 10-12 inches. The guy from the cable company stated; we don’t care how deep it goes. And fiber cables can take frost.
It looks like you are crossing the drive-way. Can the cable handle pressure also??
Ps do not forget to to add the red plastic layer (cover?) in the trenches, as in the amsterdam forest next to the bosbaan….
Crossing the driveway won’t be an issue; it’s only a few inches wide, so when you drive over it, compression forces are not that high. And the dirt I will put back in will more easily compress. I may put some stakes in so at a later date I can find the trajectory. Apart from the driveway crossing, it’s impossible to find the trajectory of the power and water lines. Another reason not to dig deep; would not want to hit either of them by accident.
